It comes as no surprise the reactions of people taking to the streets in defiance of civil authorities in California. At what point do these unjustified killings by police of unarmed people across this nation receive the national attention it deserves. The Trayvon Martin case is not the rule but exception. The real problem in poor communities are the police. For to many years this problem has been placed under the rug.... hidden and ignored by the media. Ignored because it would expose the corruption in police deparetments and the criminal justice system that fails to prosecute cops for misconduct.
Mothers, babies, small children, senior citizens, both young and old male and female have all been victims of police violence across this nation. There could be a 'Memorial Wall' built in Washington D.C to commemorate the number of unarmed individuals that have lost their lives to police shootings in this nation. The tragedy lies in the fact the vast majority of victims of these killings are Blacks and Hispanics.
People in this country have no problem with law enforcement shooting armed criminals. That is the job of police. They have lives and families. If they have to put down a armed criminal then nobody can argue with that decision.
But the problem with police across this nation is that they make no distinction between a armed and unarmed individual and take liberty to shoot both. That is anarchy and no citizen is going to have respect for the rule of law. People in this nation have enough to be concerned with, crime in their communities, the lack of employment and feeding their families. The last thing any respectable citizen should have to be concerned with is the possibility they could be shot or killed by a law enforcement officer because the officer said, "I feared for my life" or the individual was, "fidgeting in the car."
This is a war that was declared by police in this country. Poor people of color have been the causalities for a long time. If citizens have to armed themselves to protect their families and communities from police repression then its all part of war.
